Dornsaetum Late 9th cent. ‘(Territory of) the people around Dorn’
On Royal Oak Day in Whitechurch Canonicorum, Dorset, the men of the village would traditionally go out at three o' clock in the morning to cut oak branches, one of which was set on the church tower and another on a post in the centre of the village!
